Zoom Talk "The Infamous Prisoner: San Jacinto, Santa Anna, and the Texas Warship Invincible"
Tuesday, March 18, 2025 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (CDT)
Description
On Tuesday, March 18 at noon, historian Jim Beville will tell the little-known story Santa Anna’s eight-month incarceration in Texas following his defeat at the Battle of San Jacinto. The chain of events that took place afterward his defeat—an agreement to withdraw troops, the Treaty of Velasco, his guarantee of safe passage home on a Texas warship, its repudiation, a lynch mob, a second confinement followed by a bizarre plot to free him all led to Santa Anna being held as a prisoner of war in Brazoria county in the summer and fall of 1836.
