Texas Brass Festival

Saturday, May 27, 2023 (1:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (CDT)

Description

Combining four of the leading British-style Brass bands. Starting at 1:00 pm, Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio Brass bands will each perform concerts, showcasing some of Texas's best brass musicians. Everything is bigger in Texas….right? The Texas Brass Fest is no exception. At the end of the day, all four bands will take the stage at Round Top Festival Institute to form the biggest brass band ever seen (and heard) in Texas. Of course, we are not saying it is the biggest ever in the U.S., but we are in Texas!! At 1:00 pm, the Austin Brass Band will start the day with their performance. They will be followed by the Dallas Brass Band at 2:15 pm, the Houston Brass Band at 3:30 pm, and San Antonio Brass Band at 4:45 pm. Finally, the mass band concert will start at 6:00 pm. In addition to some of the best British-style brass band performances this side of the Atlantic, we will have food trucks and refreshments on tap throughout the day. This will be a fun, family event not to be missed! Austin Brass Band Inspired by the 1996 British movie Brassed Off, Austin Civic Wind Ensemble members initially formed the band as the Austin Wonder Brass in 2005. In 2011, the name was changed to Austin Brass Band. The band competed at the NABBA Championships for the first time in 2019. John Caputo is a founding member and conductor of the San Antonio Brass Band. Dallas Brass Band Dallas Brass Band was founded in January 2017 as an outreach project of The Salvation Army, with the organization providing a rehearsal venue and the use of instruments and equipment. The band is based on the British brass band tradition and now has over 30 members. The current band comprises players from various musical backgrounds, with many coming out of the Salvation Army banding tradition, as well as a number from institutions such as the University of North Texas, Texas Christian University, and the University of Texas at Arlington.
