Quilt exhibit “Citizen Stitching: Political Quilts in the Winedale Quilt Collection.”

Friday, February 16, 2024 10:00 AM - Sunday, February 18, 2024 4:00 PM (CST)

Description

Political loyalties, beliefs, and opinions have historically inspired quilters to create works dedicated to a party or political figure. This exhibition displays examples, drawn from the Winedale Quilt Collection, of how some quilters have expressed party affiliations and support for candidates with both original and well-known patterns throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Selected quilts include homages or gifts to charismatic Texans such as W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel, John Nance Garner, and Ann Richards. This free exhibit is at Winedale, 3760 FM 2714, Round Top on: Friday and Saturday, February 16th-17th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 18th, noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, February 23rd-24th, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 25th, noon to 4 p.m. Contact Winedale at 979-278-3530 or e-mail tricia.blakistone@austin.utexas.edu for more information.
